Questioning Art

Questions to consider:
What is art? How would you define art? Is it possible to assess and evaluate art? If so, what is good art, and conversely, how can one determine what is bad art?

Art is any creative output of the human mind, a physical or mental representation of a unique idea or thought in any form.  It can be possible to assess and evaluate art, as many creative aspects lie within a common field of viewing.  Good art can be a full realization of the said idea, whereas a bad piece of art could be seen as an incomplete thought, or something within any creative passion behind it as judged by the viewer.  Ultimately, an artist is left to determine whether others would see the piece as something worthwhile, or something that is not worth their time.

Self-Portrait

This portrait of myself was modified from an image I took at Sunrise, Arizona earlier this year.  I started by looking at pictures that I had of myself (which was not many), and decided upon this because it seemed to be the easiest to edit.  The picture was very flexible in terms of being able to edit coloration and lighting.  It is as complete as I could make it with the time allotted, considering I haven't used Photoshop in about 5 months.  I hope to come back to this picture and finish it sometime during the semester.

When I was growing up in Phoenix as a child, I used to wander around the Downtown and Central areas just to get out of the house, because my parents were usually fighting.  So I took the city to comfort, and it embraced me all the same.  This picture is a representation of a walk through the city in my childhood eyes combined with a dream I had about a wasteland.
